To Stand Out Under the Spotlight

September 14, 2007, afternoon- The class hour’s almost done. One more subject to go and Voila, it’s playtime! Well, if it only turned out to be that easy, I won’t feel alarmed. But it didn’t. We had our Book Presentation in Filipino. BUT that’s not it… Ma’am Herrera assigned three representatives from section one to watch our presentation and one of them, unfortunately(?), is Everglades. We only had a couple of hours, I guess, to practice.  I didn’t memorize the lines very well and my heart kept on beating fast. Was I nervous that time?  I think, yes. We were to present Kesa and Morito. On the first group, Mary Grace took the role of Kesa. She did a very long monologue. I could hardly believe that that was her acting. She has improved a lot. On the otherhand, in our group, I portrayed  the role of Morito, on the part where he’s explaining his own side of the story(through another monologue) while Jym-P took the same role (but that time, by simply acting out what has happened). That day, the two doors were closed and all the windows were covered up with cardboards so that once the lights are turned off, complete darkness would fill the room. Thus, the use of spotlights would be possible. Somehow, it eased me. The darkness somehow gave me confidence. My monologue turned out just fine although I failed to pronounce most of the words correctly. Honestly, for me, I messed it all up. But for my classmates, it is my best acting performance so far. I can’t really believe it. Doing all of that while she was watching me is very exhausting (needless to say, embarrassing). They liked what I did but the question is, “Did she like it?”. I don’t know but one thing’s for sure, I can no longer look directly to her eyes. What should I do? Can anyone tell me? The three main reasons why my heart beat fast that time are: First, Mary grace has improved a lot, why shouldn’t I? Second, Jym-P took the same role as mine, I mustn’t lose to him. Third, Everglades’ watching, I must show her what I got.
